Basic Fire Awareness
This course is designed to assist the employer in meeting the legal requirements set in Malta to protect workers from serious and imminent danger (such as in the event of fire) by having enough competent persons to implement the established procedures.
Aims & Objectives: The aims of this course are to train delegates in the principles of fire ignition, the combustion process and fire spread, the principles of basic fire risk assessment, The process of raising an alarm and reporting a fire Incident, and the location and interpretation of signage. Fire isolation techniques and fire doors, the process of safe evacuation of the premises and mustering taking rollcalls at a safe location.
On completion of the course, delegates will have a working knowledge of:
- Chemistry of fire,
- causes of fire,
- introduction of fire risk content assessment,
- prevention of fire,
- spotting and reporting hazards,
- Classification of fires,
- Methods of fire spread,
- Fixed fire detection systems,
- Types of alarms, fire drill and evacuation procedures,
- Types of fire extinguishing agents, Fire hose reels, Fixed firefighting systems

foam, water fire extinguishers,
Combination of low-pressure water and powder, fires involving
electrical equipment. Evacuation drill on site.
