Breathing Apparatus Instructor Course

This course is designed for experienced breathing apparatus wearers, who need the knowledge and skills required to design and deliver safe and effective breathing apparatus training.

Aim: The aim of the BAI is to enable delegates to devise and deliver competency-based training on the technical aspects and operational use & associated procedures of Breathing Apparatus. 

Pre-requisite’s: Delegates attending ISTC for this training must have: 

a) Proven teaching or mentoring skills 

b) Be competent in producing visual aids for teaching purposes 

c) To already have proven experience and be competent in the wearing of breathing apparatus.

Medical & Health Requirements: 

Training and/or assessment activities contained within this course may include physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such activities must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully.


Practical & Assessment: This course is assessed against the learning outcomes using practical observation throughout and a written test to determine the underpinning knowledge in the more technical areas of BA equipment and procedures. There will also be a requirement for delegates to produce classroom presentations as part of a group or syndicate.
