Electric powered Vehicles and Collision Management - JOIFF
This online course is designed to equip operational firefighters, with the technical and practical skill sets, required to develop a structured approach to planning and implementing actions to deal with alternative-powered vehicles involved in road traffic incidents. It follows the NFPA standard. This Electric Vehicle Safety Training course will provide emergency responders with important information necessary to respond to emergencies involving electric and hybrid vehicles now on the road. It is crucial to public confidence that emergency responders are knowledgeable of the information needed when an emergency incident is encountered.
Theory Content and Practical Training:
- Introduction to hybrid, electric, fuel cell, & gaseous fuel vehicles
- Basic electrical concepts
- Vehicle systems & charging/refuelling infrastructure
- Initial response procedures
- Identification methods, immobilization, disabling, emergency operations
- Unanticipated vehicle movement, electric shock hazards
- Toxic and flammable gas build-up & electrolyte skin contact
- Extrication, vehicle and battery fires, submersion
- High voltage battery damage, battery re-ignition
- Incidents involving charging stations & refuelling stations
- Emergency operations
