NFPA 470 HAZMAT AWARENESS / OPERATOR
This course is for emergency personnel who may be first on the scene at a hazardous materials emergency. First responders at the awareness level are expected to recognise the presence of hazardous materials, protect themselves, secure the area and call for trained personnel. At the operator level, the first responder uses the knowledge gained from the awareness level to act in a defensive posture to protect people, the environment or property from the effects of an unplanned hazardous material release. During the course, learners will be taught the basic hazards and risk assessment techniques associated with Hazmat and CBRNE environments as well as the skills needed to evaluate and work defensively at an incident suspecting or confirmed to have released hazardous materials. Delegates must undergo examination and skills evaluation, which if completed successfully will result in IFSAC Certification.
