Tower and Mobile Crane - Safe Use

This course is designed to instruct persons required to use Tower and Mobile Cranes. Overall aims of the session: Providing training on ‘best-practices’ in the daily tower and mobile crane operations.

Learning Outcomes: 

1. Safety Aspects. General rules related to Crane Operations.
2. Using the Crane Safely. Best practices and methods of
using a crane and the interpretation of the capacity
chart.
3. Case Studies: A number of case studies involving
accidents are discussed to warn participants against
taking unnecessary risks.

- Safety – General Safety Rules
- Factors to consider before starting work
- Factors to consider during the execution of operations
- Using the FLT safely

- Cranes structure and types of cranes
- The effect of the centre of gravity on stability
- The capacity chart
- Materials safety data sheets
- Routine inspections and repairs
- Inspections by a competent person
- The use of slings
- Wire ropes – Care and Maintenance

- Case Studies. A number of case studies involving crane
accidents are discussed to warn participants against
taking unnecessary risks.

Legal
It is a legal requirement to train workers required to operate such work equipment and
machinery under legal notice 282 of 2004, regulations 3 (3.2) and 9 (a). Worker Training is also a generic requirement under legal notice 36 of 2003, Regulation 4 (3)

Prerequisites Good physical and mental health.
Language English / Maltese.
Duration 12 Hrs Theory and 4 Hrs Practical.
Venue Own Premises.
Participants Maximum class size 12 persons.
Certification A certificate of competency valid for 3 years will be issued to delegates who successfully complete this course.
