Cook

We are recruiting a Cook to join our team at ISTC, on a full-time reduced basis, working 20hrs weekly, between Monday and Friday (working 8 till noon or 9 till 1 pm)

Responsibilities:

The selected person will be required to cook and prepare meals according to daily requirements catering for college delegates, working to a set timescale for delivery of meals to a high standard. This role will include the following responsibilities:

  1. Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment.
  2. Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
  3. Cook food with various utensils or grillers.
  4. Check food while cooking to stir or turn.
  5. Ensure great presentation by dressing/garnishing dishes before they are served.
  6. Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen.
  7. Ensure all food and other items are stored properly.
  8. Check the quality of ingredients
  9. Monitor stock and place orders when there are shortages.

The Requirements

  • Proven 2-year experience as a cook in a working environment.
  • Experience in using cutting tools, cookware, and canteen hygiene.
  • Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)
  • Ability to follow all sanitation procedures.
  • Ability to work in a team and support others.
  • Very good communication skills in both English and Maltese
  • Good physical condition and stamina
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to control and manage a catering budget.
  • HACCP Training or equivalent qualification.
  • Hygienic and smart appearance.
  • Personal means of transport to get to and from work.
